AP - China’s military now possesses most of the sophisticated weapon systems found in the arsenals of developed Western nations, the country’s defense minister said in comments published Monday.

Many of China’s systems, including the J-10 fighter jet, latest-generation tanks, navy destroyers, and cruise and intercontinental ballistic missiles, match or are close to matching the capabilities of those in the West, Liang Guanglie said in a rare interview posted on the ministry’s Web site.

“This is an extraordinary achievements that speaks to the level of our military’s modernization and the huge change in our country’s technological strength,” Liang said.

The minister’s remarks come ahead of China’s biggest military parade in a decade scheduled for the Oct. 1 National Day in Beijing. That event will showcase much of the country’s most advanced equipment, the fruit of China’s booming economy and nearly two decades of annual double digit percentage increases in the defense budget.

Liang said he believed the parade would “display the image of a mighty force, a civilized force, a victorious force.”

    Beejj,China's military power is actually a GOOD thing.China is
    as ANTI-MUSLIM as I am,but with TEETH.

    All China wants is TRADE,TRADE and TRADE.They want to make money.I
    doubt very much that they are willing to spoil and loose all their efforts in
    battle.No, they won't.

    They are at war with Brazil,America and Europe.A trade-war,the WORST
    of them all.They sell stuff cheaper than ours,by hiring minors,paying lower
    wages,augmenting the working hours...

    There's one thing I like in China in particular...THEY IGNORE THE POLITICALLY
    CORRECT'S RATIONALE.

    The UIGHURS already have noticed that.

    China would NEVER sit idly while an alien,deeply hostile ideology invades
    their country to make it their own,in detriment of the native culture.

    That's Britain,not China.

    TIBETANS:

    Their bad luck is that the Chinese aren't Jews.If they were,the Tibetan cause
    would gain another dimension.Everyone would engage on the Tibetan's behalf.

    Well,China invaded Tibet in 1950/1951,right? Then I'd rather have a dig at TURKEY,

    I wonder WHY so few people still bother even to REMEMBER that.

    The ONLY problem in the world is that israelis are building more "settlements"

    I WELCOME CHINA as a great superpower.Maybe President Hussein could think
    about them,leaving Israel alone now and then.

    No,the muslims don't want autonomy only.They want
