Report: Global Muslim population hits 1.57 billion

Up from 1.3 Billion in 2008.  That’s quite a jump in a single year.

AFP – The global Muslim population stands at 1.57 billion, meaning that nearly 1 in 4 people in the world practice Islam, according to a report Wednesday billed as the most comprehensive of its kind.

The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life report provides a precise number for a population whose size has long has been subject to guesswork, with estimates ranging anywhere from 1 billion to 1.8 billion.

The project, three years in the making, also presents a portrait of the Muslim world that might surprise some. For instance, Germany has more Muslims than Lebanon, China has more Muslims than Syria, Russia has more Muslims than Jordan and Libya combined, and Ethiopia has nearly as many Muslims as Afghanistan.

Think about it…

A Gallup poll in 2008 suggests that 93% of the worlds Muslims are “moderate”.  That would leave 7% as radical.  That’s not even including the larger precentage of Muslims who may not be potentially violent, but would still support violent jihad if it were for the cause of spreading Islam throughout the globe.  In other words, the percentage of muslims who are both radically violent (the 7%)  including those who  SUPPORT of the acts of violence against the West are obviously much higher considering the most extreme would be the smallest percentage.

In addition, we’re not even talking including the millions upon millions who would never commit violence or support violent acts, but sure as hell would vote to institute Islamic Law into Western societies if given the chance.

Even if we low-balled it and said 10% (I personally think it’s much higher) of the worlds Muslims are 1 of the 3:

1. Radically violent
2. non-violent but supports the cause of violent Jihad
3. non-violent, does not support violent jihad, but still wants to institute Islamic Law

That would still put the number at 157,000,000 potentially radical Muslims

157 MILLION radical Islamists?
