Obama’s UN Resolution to Stifle Free Speech on Islam

by Infidelesto on October 16, 2009 · Comments

On Oct 1st, the Obama administration quietly introduced an anti-free speech measure to the UN’s Human Rights Council that would essentially stifle any critical speech on Islam.

Front Page Mag has more:

OBAMA-AND-THE-COSTOn October 1, 2009, the Obama administration in conjunction with the Egyptian government, introduced an anti-free speech measure to the United Nation’s Human Rights Council (HRC).  It was adopted the next day without a vote.

Earlier this year, when the United States sought a seat on the HRC, it was a controversial decision.  Many who found the HRC neither credible nor useful, opposed the move.  Yet, others were more optimistic that America could change the HRC from within.  Perhaps the U.S. could spur debate stemming from its opposition to China, Sudan, Libya, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia on critical human rights votes.

Little evidence suggests that Americans on either side of the aisle contemplated the US entering the ring and supporting the opposition’s anti-freedom measures.  Yet now, the current administration has done worse:  it’s leading the charge.

The draft resolution, misleadingly titled “Freedom of Opinion and Expression” includes two troubling components.  First, it calls on nation states to take “effective measures” to address and combat “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence”.  It expresses concern and condemnation of “negative stereotyping of religions and racial groups”.  It further attempts to construe this as an international human rights law and obligation.  Second, it recognizes the media’s “moral and social responsibilities” and the “importance” that its potential voluntary code of conduct could play in combating intolerance.

This resolution appears to stem from, and constitute a step toward, the Organization of Islamic Conference’s resolution to “combat defamation of religions”.  The OIC’s resolution would ban outright the “defaming” of religions, speech critical of religion (even if accurate), and open discussion about any negative consequences resulting from the implementation of religious beliefs (such as Sharia law).

Though both resolutions mention “religions” generally, the context and references of the resolutions make them almost certain to apply only or disproportionately to Islam.  Indeed, the defamation of religions resolution singles out treatment of Islam.  Yet not surprisingly, the OIC has blatantly refused to curtail hate speech against Jews or Israel.

[...]

In the past, when the US addressed international speech norms, it went out of its way to ensure that treaties by which it was bound would not restrict free speech or undermine America’s first amendment protections.  But now, change has come.

Arguably relinquishing one of America’s most fundamental freedoms, Obama is once again bowing down to the Muslim world.  The interim ranking US diplomat, Douglas Griffiths explained, “[T]his initiative is a manifestation of the Obama administration’s commitment to multilateral engagement throughout the United Nations and of our genuine desire to seek and build cooperation based upon mutual interest and mutual respect in pursuit of our shared common principles of tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”  However, to the OIC, “respect” means the silencing of offensive speech against Islam.

With all due respect Mr. President:  the attainment of freedom and human rights is not tantamount to winning a popularity contest.  And capitulation is not leadership.  It is a sad state of affairs when France refutes major portions of a United States initiative because the initiative undermines fundamental freedoms.

Indeed it seems as if people are willing to put up with any THING as long as no muslim comes after them.
SCREW them. They are ruining the world. And everyone says it's "culture" ??

When I was a kid a person with CULTURE read fine book and listened to fine music.

Now it means you have a nine year old wife! and you killed your daughter!

    Well to hell with them.

ALL PEOPLE ARE EQUAL BUT NOT ALL SYSTEMS OF LIVING ARE.

People need to get their P.C. heads out of the sand!

I wholeheartedly endorse that which you have written, Expat 1. Islam is the greatest evil I can ever imagine being a product of the human mind. Foul concepts such as Communism and extreme Fascism by their very nature cannot endure, but Islam, which embodies elements of both, flourishes like mildew in an ill-ventilated space. Of course, it persists because it is presented as a religion, but it is manifestly a pseudoreligion that preys upon minds it entraps, enslaves and engulfs in a straitjacket from which its victims dare not try to escape. Islam bullies people from birth to death. It brooks no argument; no questioning; no doubt. Other religions have their devotees, but Islam has its prisoners. Other religions accept other religions but Islam scorns them and puts them to the sword. Islam tries to pretend to be the voice of higher reason, its absurd prophet being the last word in truth and wisdom (because he said so), but its Book of Murder orders its readers to conquer and be blind to the claims of validity of those of different faiths. Not all Muslims have the opportunity to slaughter. Perhaps many of them have not the stomach for it. This does not matter. There are enough of them to do the job their prophet would applaud, ending the lives of or brutally maiming those foolish and trusting enough to admit them to their societies. When such outrages occur, as they do almost every day, the inactive ones remain silent. They might say that such acts are contrary to the teachings of their book (the murderers disagree), but they never raise their voices in protest: they do not attempt to censure such acts because deep in their hearts they care not a fig for the sufferings their brethren cause. Yes, they wail when Muslims of their sect are killed and mutilated by Muslims of another sect, but do they react similarly when the victims are Christians, Jews or Hindus? Of course they don't. They simply tell us us that the bad guys form a tiny minority. A silent, unprotesting majority constitutes the most efficient catalyst for the fanatic to foment his murderous mayhem.

All this is surely clear to the meanest understanding, but what is the non-Islamic world's response? It would be bad enough if the answer to this question is "nothing", but such is not the case. Instead, the majority of non-Muslims, brought up on a diet of political correctness and trained never to voice their deeply felt opinions, trample each other in their rush to defend what they bizarrely refer to as "moderate Islam". These excuses for human beings blanch when I say that nearly every black African leader since about 1960 was a swine, a murderer, a monster, an animal, a disgrace to the human race, and should have been assassinated. But it's true. Scumbags, the lot of them. Got that, you liberals? BLACK SCUMBAGS! And these vermin are given seats in the United Nations!! Yet, the African scumbag is a relatively simple soul compared with his non-black Islamic counterpart, perhaps because it was not long ago that the Africans were swinging from branches, or whatever, while Muslims have known sophistication of sorts for a long time. (At this juncture I imagine white-livered liberals howling for my blood. Go ahead, you hopeless fools, howl away. I piss on you and your howling. Your opinions and beliefs are worthless. Your touchie-feelie, tutti-fruity exclamations and protestations are a betrayal of everything that is decent and worthwhile and essential to the continuance of Western civilisation.)

We live in a world which fosters its own destruction. Quite why this is so I cannot explain and certainly fail to understand. It seems the strong are ashamed of their strength (they even apologise for it!) and are eager to hand over the reins of power to the weak. Let the tried and trusted give way to the alien, even though disaster looms, for the most important thing we can ever do is to be "fair-minded" and "understanding" and "accepting of others' views". To hell with them all! Let us be what history has made us. Piss on liberals and shit on Islam. Close the mosques. Make Muslims conform or drive them back to their deserts. Islam must be fought tooth and claw. It's them or us.

Well,if YOU were given political power, this world
would be a far better place to live.

THANK YOU for writing such brilliant, lucid, accurate
and corageous posts in this blog.

Reading your posts,I don't need CNN,BBC and New York Times...
Somehow I feel safer knowing that still exist people
    like you in the world.

You are far better than Daniel Pipes.
    Congratulations!

Wonderful, Beejj! I think this is one of the finest comments you have ever written here at IAC and I have read it 3 times.

"We live in a world which fosters its own destruction."

Very true and profoundly sad! I cannot understand this either, but the truth of this statement becomes more apparent with each passing day.
  • Steve
    Christine,
you said "Very true and profoundly sad! I cannot understand this either, but the truth of this statement becomes more apparent with each passing day."
Well, here's why:"1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

6They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone." (2Tim3:1-9)
What to do about it? Fight evil with a righteous heart, putting your LIFE on the line -for to fight this evil today, you surely will-, and believe that ultimately, good ALWAYS wins over evil...even this evil.

If they take me to court in the UK because of my mouth. I will ask the court to prove to me and the UK that mohaMUD the rapist and paedophile, isn't what I say he is!! They are a filthy bunch of animals, and still practice the rapists teachings today.
  • This is a lot of "Insight" to SEEING THE BIG PICTURE, and a lot to digest at one time. However it boils down to the fact we are living in the last of the last times, even though we do not know the day or the hour of the second coming of Christ, it's coming. All of these comments are excellent so far, and offer the world a "looking glass" so to speak of what we can expect, and what is neccessary to stave off this evil Muslim dick- tator Obama, who IMO is a precurser to the anti-Christ, if not THE anti-Christ. We'll know soon enough. Praise God, America keep standing. Do not allow this corrupt Godless government to steal your glory, in the name of Jesus Christ.
"Fight the good fight of faith." GRRRR
  • Beejj: U said it just the way I like it. U go. What a guy! What a profound statement. This is right on, everything. PEOPLE IN AMERICA THAT CAN 'MAKE A DIFFERENCE' Please TAKE HEED.

"Can Obama change America to suit his beliefs? As long as he enjoys the adoration of the blacks and coloureds and those who have NOT the ability to take charge of their own destinies, YES, but only for a while. Americans are NOT hopeless cases seeking a meal ticket. Never have been. They are tough sonsofbitches who carve out their own path in the world and the devil take the hindmost. America, for all its vulnerability and temporary blindness, will be changed by AMERICANS, and not by some johnny-come-lately flavour of the month black Muslim."

    AMEN AGAIN AND AGAIN!
    GRRRR
  • Obama is not a closet muslim. He's an athiest at best, but more likely a steady secularist. Nobody in his administration, in my opinion, gives a crap about any organized religion. To the modern democratic party, religious affiliation is only a political affiliation to be used for political gain. Any of the current administration "actors" who are close iwth Obama are only putting on a show if they walk into a synagogue or church at any point.

The agenda of the left, and more specifically Obama, is one that aims to create a secular, obedient middle class kept in check by federal spending on their behalf. To Obama and his staffers, religion is a mere prop on the stage where they act. It's part of the scheme.

Obama is extending an peaceful hand of help to muslims, and if he can he would make some sort of similar, worthless gesture to every other religion in an attempt to trick those particular religious followers into thinking Obama gives a crap about them. Just like extending unemployment benefits from the unemployed so they're OK with Obama momentarily- when in actuality his policies may keep them out of work even longer. As long as he gives them something up front, he distracts attention from the fact that he really doesn't give a crap about any of them.

"First, it calls on nation states to take “effective measures” to address and combat “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence”. It expresses concern and condemnation of “negative stereotyping of religions and racial groups”."

The key word here is "discrimination." To discriminate is to recognize inequality and to take action based on inequality. One must first differentiate good inequality (naturally inequalities of outcome occurring among naturally free people who are equal before law) from bad inequality (un-natural inequality before law which renders individuals un-naturally un-free). Well, Islamic Sharia is unequal to the American Declaration of Independence; it is the legalization of tyranny whereas our Declaration is the enemy of tyranny. Islamic Sharia legalizes un-natural inequality before law and it destroys our sacred natural rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness (private property honestly earned through labor) – the opposite of our Declaration; and therefore Islamic Sharia cries out for discrimination. We must discriminate good from evil - they are naturally unequal.

"Second, it recognizes the media’s “moral and social responsibilities” and the “importance” that its potential voluntary code of conduct could play in combating intolerance."

I am naturally intolerant of political tyranny and evil, so I am proudly intolerant of Islamic Sharia.

Why would any sane person pay any attention to those lame assed pukes in the UN? The only thing more crooked in the world is probably the Russian Mafia. Ignore the peckerheads....maybe they'll go away.
  • Steve
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. " - Edmund Burke
Sure, Tonto, let's all just ignore the evil, and it will go away... in a pig's eye! No, instead, goodness, freedom, and justice will disappear.
  • Tonto
Steverino...So what would be your point by point alternative....starting with: what?
And while you're at that, pull your head out and read the post directly above yours.
  • SirWilhelm
Ah, Tonto, don't you see? The "peckerheads" are in the White House! That's why they agree with the ones in the UN. And they aren't going away soon, if ever.
  • Tonto
Point taken SirWilhelm, however, in the US Constitution, there are 10 amendments, called the Bill Of Rights, that all Americans, me included, hold near and dear. The 1st Amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free excercise thereof; or abridging the FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
What that means is, the UN can pass all the resolutions, bylaws, and mental masturbation edicts they want to, and it don't mean shit to a tree here in the USA. As I hear they say where you come from is "They can stuff themselves". What the amendment means is that you can say what you want and print what you want, but you'd best be telling the truth and you best be able to prove it. Quite frankly, anyone could talk shit about islam and the stupidity and insanity of it all day long and never ever come close to telling a lie......and if they offer violence....we got an answer for that too. "Jihad goes BOTH frickin' ways!!!" Gary Owen!
  • SirWilhelm
Obama has made statements that indicate he sees the Constitution as a restriction on government, not the foundation for the Republic. He has already found several ways around it, if not outright violations of it. The way he took over GM is most likely un-Constitutional, his many appointments of "czars", the provision in the Baucus Bill forcing citizens to buy health care, and the potential use of the "nuclear option" to force passage of a health bill, all come to mind. What else will he and the Dems come up with, they have at least more than another year together, and Obama has 2 more after that. And there are signs the administration is prepared to defer to the UN on internal matters that would affect our Constitutional rights. We may need another Revolution to regain our freedom.
  • Tonto
The Constitution is definitely under "fire". That is just one thing upsetting conservatives of all parties. The Dems have be over-run by the far left, the so-called progressives....looking at their views gives me an insight on what the man on the street must have felt about Hitler and Co. Texas is already talking about leaving the union....if they do, or even get close, I will move there....and take all my guns, and my expertise, with me. Revolution may very well come, hopefully a non-violent one....and I think it's already underway....Obama knows he's done.....so do many of the more virulent radicals in Congress.....the dems know their time in Congress is over in the 2010 elections....they will do as much harm and push as much of their commie agenda as they can right up to the day when they get frog-marched out of their offices. All conservatives can do at this point is to hold as much ground as they can and elect and push representatives that will push the Constitution back into effect. God help us!

President Obama has stated that he wants to 'fundamentally change' America. In my humble opinion, he is being successful. I have feared for a long time that the desire to change us springs from an intense dislike, if not hatred of many of the fundamental things that America has stood for.
  • Beejj
My blood boils when I think someone has the gall or the imagined right to believe he has the aim in life to set about changing America. I am not American. There is much about America with which I disagree, but then, that is true of every other country I can think of. Does this make me think I would, if I could, change America so that it becomes entirely to my liking? No! A million times NO! It would, at a stroke, cease to be America, and that would prove to be a tragic loss to the world. America is more than a land filled with people. It is an IDEA. It is a PROMISE. It stands as a beacon that points the way to what the world could possibly become. Laugh and guffaw all you will, those of you who see America as the root of so much evil and the source of so many of the world's ills. Be scathing when America sometimes loses its way. America is a work in progress while other countries are stagnant, festering cesspits of ideas that have outlived their usefulness or which grudgingly adopt the beneficial lessons America teaches. Yes, America invented political correctness - may it hang its head in everlasting shame - a notion that is the ultimate enemy of free speech and the destroyer of democratic expression, so beloved of the America that was. So willing is America to be fair that is becomes unfair to itself, fostering the well-being of those who are its mortal enemies. American Law contorts and bends over backwards to see that fair play, and more, is accorded to the villain at the expense of those it takes for granted, and in doing so becomes its own worst enemy, undermining its own heartbeat. Its enemies slaver and drool while the ghosts of Jefferson and Washington and Adams turn away their heads and wonder where they went wrong. They realise, too late, that writing a concrete Constitution which attempts to be the last word in wisdom and fairness is a pipe dream, and they probably damn the moment they put their signatures to the wretched thing. Meanwhile, the villains lick their chops .......

Can Obama change America to suit his beliefs? As long as he enjoys the adoration of the blacks and coloureds and those who have not the ability to take charge of their own destinies, yes, but only for a while. Americans are not hopeless cases seeking a meal ticket. Never have been. They are tough sonsofbitches who carve out their own path in the world and the devil take the hindmost. America, for all its vulnerability and temporary blindness, will be changed by AMERICANS, and not by some johnny-come-lately flavour of the month black Muslim.

It is getting to the stage were only the gun will do the talking. In the UK 3 members of a girls family who raped her from the age of 5( she is now 29) Were jailed in Swansea. Yes they have those funny names!!!!
  • SirWilhelm
Another indication of Obama's true loyalties, why would anyone that is not pro-Muslim support this? I've stated before that I believe he is not just pro-Muslim, but a closet Muslim. Islam sided with Facism during WWII, Facism is Socialism, Socialism is Communism, all are different names for the same thing, the forced re-distribution of wealth. All are enemies of freedom, especially Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Speech is much more fragile on the international scene, but Obama is still subtle in his approach to suppressing it. Our freedoms are next.
  • Storm_Rider
Yes, Fascism is a close relative of Marxism/Socialism/Communism - they are both forms of elite rule, i.e.: Oligarchy.

Marxist Oligarchy is more subtle and clever than "in your face" Fascism. Marxists divide a population into two opposing classes: The un-productive, state-supported proletariat class with its vanguard of intellectuals vs. the productive state-supporting middle class with its vanguard of entrepreneurs. The Marxist Oligarchy takes sides in this class struggle; robbing the productive middle class; enriching themselves, and redistributing the legally stolen property to the non-productive proletariat class in return for votes. The middle class and entrepreneurs eventually become demoralized and exhausted; their creativity now extinguished, they join the non-creative proletariat class in equal serfdom which is called "social justice" by the self-serving Marxist ruling class which now looms over them all with an immeasurably greater Orwellian inequality.

The equally self-serving Fascist Oligarchy simply confiscates what it needs from an un-divided homogenous population; making no pretense to "social justice," and does not use class struggle as a tool.

Here is a great video describing the similarities between Marxist and Fascist Oligarchies, and where real social justice comes in, i.e.: the American Revolution.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODJfwa9XKZQ
  • SirWilhelm
Whatever distinctions you want to make between Fascist and Marxist Oligarchies, they both wind up forcing the redistribution of wealth. And they ignore the rule of law whenever it's convenient for them. Obama's administration seems to be ignoring the rule of law when convient. The provision in the Baucus bill that forces people to buy health insurance is most likely unconstitutional and is the latest example of that. All the bills remaining on Obama's agenda contain similar provisions, open ad hidden. If passed, they will produce the "profound transformation" he spoke of five days before his inaugaration.
  • ADIZZY999
There are no distinctions between fascism communism socialism and islam, they are all ideologys that want to subjugate the masses.
Mein Kampf-Says that the German State is to have control over every aspect of life. Says all individuals must submit to the State.
The Q’uran-Says that Islam and Sharia is to have control over every aspect of life. Says all individuals must submit to Islam.
Mein Kampf-Says that Germans have the duty to claim their divinely appointed place in the world by whatever means necessary. Puts loyalty to the Volk (the race) above all other ethical considerations.
The Q’uran-Says that Muslims have a duty to wage Jihad and to advance Islam’s domination over the world (Dar Islam and Dar Harb) by any means necessary. Places loyalty to fellow Muslims (Umma) and Islam above all other ethical considerations.

Obama is surely ushering in the new Golden age......of Islam.

Yet another example that the fundamental rights (such as Freedom of Speech) that many in America have taken for granted are under assault by the Progressives that infest Washington, D.C. They exert influence in an attempt to silence Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, the list goes on..........what chance do the rest of us have?
