Obama pledged during last years campaign that he would step up pressure on the Sudanese government for its repeated violations of human rights. So much for that promise.

Campaigned as a hawk, governing as an pacifist.

Hope and Change people…

The Obama administration has formulated a new policy for Sudan that proposes working with that country’s government, rather than isolating it as President Obama had pledged to do during his campaign.

In an interview on Friday, President Obama’s special envoy to Sudan, Maj. Gen. J. Scott Gration, retired, said the policy, to be announced Monday by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, would make use of a mix of “incentives and pressure” to seek an end to the human rights abuses that have left millions of people dead or displaced while burning Darfur into the American conscience.

General Gration said the administration would set strict time lines for President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan to fulfill the conditions of a 2005 peace agreement that his government signed with rebels in southern Sudan.

Under that agreement, independence for southern Sudan is to be put to a vote in 2011.

“To advance peace and security in Sudan, we must engage with allies and with those with whom we disagree,” said a statement of the policy that was obtained by The New York Times.

  • OBAMAKINS, has been the biggest waste of time, energy, money, TV productions that amount to nothing but an idiot on a 'tele,' what a travesty. GRRRR

"incentives"=buying off the enemy, when's the last time you've seen that work? But then, it goes along with the Stimulus Bill, the Omnibus Bill, The Health Bill, Energy Bill, and every other bill of this admin, while making the only cuts they've made in defense spending. Either Obama and the Dems really believe their is no end to our money, or there is a hidden agenda at work, does anyone see another alternative? On the other hand, destroying our economic system seems to go along the the waving of the white flag internationally, including unilateral disarmament. If they aren't deliberately destroying our country from within, what the hell are they doing?

I can only assume that Obama is some class of nihilist who stands for absolutely nothing.
Appeasement, conflict resolution, servile flattery and an almost child-like stubbornness.
Obama's Chamberlain-ism and Dr.Phil-ery,means America is chartering new and dangerous terrains without the asset of a moral compass.Traversing the world brandishing a white flag only portends a coming darkness.

Right, that is exactly what he is doing. Obama fearlessly leads us into self-abasement, dishonor, retreat. I do not see the legislative branch behaving as it ought. Where are our statesmen who should be aghast and roused to action? Shouldn't basic self-interest if not preservation of the republic, stir them to something?
