Pakistan: Divorced Woman sold in Open Auction

by Infidelesto on December 21, 2009 · Comments

Man divorces woman, woman goes and lives with brother. Brother doesn’t know what to do with her so he holds an “open auction” and sells her to the highest bidder.  This kind of thing is all too common

JACOBABAD – A 20-year-old girl was auctioned at village Badani Bhutto of Taluka Kashmore in consideration of Rs2,70,000 on Saturday.

Azizan, daughter of late Allah Bux Bhutto, was divorced on the allegation of Karo-kari some time back. She is stated to be mother of two children and was residing with her brother who held the open auction for her ‘sale’ at village Badani Bhutto.

Karo kari is a compound word literally meaning “black male” and “black female,” metaphoric terms for adulterer and adulteress.   She’s lucky she wasn’t murdered which is the usual punishment for such acts under strict Islamic Law.

A large number of villagers showed interest in the auction that started with Rs50,000 and ended at Rs270,000. Bilawal Bhutto, 50, of the same village purchased her for the said amount. Initially he paid Rs210,000 for the girl.

Maulana Azizullah Bhutto performed their nikah later.

It is irony of the situation that no one condemned the inhuman act. ( ya think? – Infidelesto) The groom will take the bride to his house after paying the rest of the amount. The auction money was distributed equally among all the brothers of the girl.

  • It's very unfortunate that we attach a price to a human life and that these acts usually occur in cultures where double standards are praised. As the other commenters, this is inhumane other than not only is the lady denied her rights as a woman but FOREMOST as a human being.
As long as there is money involved, there will be people ready to sell off their own blood. How bad do circumstances have to get before a person is treated like a detrimental liability?

"How bad do circumstances have to get before a person is treated like a detrimental liability?"

How many roads most a man walk down
Before you call him a man ?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand ?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
    Before they're forever banned ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, how many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea ?
Yes, how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free ?
Yes, how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn't see ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky ?
Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry ?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died ?

And the metaphorical wind might just turn into a class 5 hurricane if this type of madness persists!

This is just another example of un-holy Islamic Sharia Law which invariably trumps "secular law" in Muslim majority nations.

Death to all totalitarian forms of law which derives from an elite minority &/or law that destroys the sacred rights of the individual: Monarchy, Fascism, Marxism and Islamic Sharia.

Though as disgusting and tribal as this event, Spencer through his Jihadwatch throws in words like - "this happens way to often" and other statements to say this is normal, typical, very common and no one is complaining. All of which is incorrect to various degrees and thus only is another example of Spencer, not Pakistani. I had a go at someone on a Jordanian blogsite whom argued, with a dozen newsreferences and links that the west are killing their children by turning them into dangerous psychos with all the references being of school shootings. He even argued that it has now crossed over to europe with two recent events. I pointed out the inferences are wrong and like Spencer, he will only come back and say that all his references are 'true and accurate'.

The fact is that The Nation, the Pakistani news-website raised it would be a good example that the non-tribalists in Pakistan find it wrong and distasteful, thus condemnation does exist. Go look at the place in the map, the village is a typical backwater, Sindhi-Balouchi ethnic tribal area where the locals and their tribal elders can do as they like and unless it gets to the ears of the governor will continue. The item was also shown on and discussed on Moroccan television (2M and Al Maghrebia) since 14 December and they even had the Pakistani Ambassador on to explain the difficulty of changing tribal customs.

Pakistan is a dangerous place. I was there from '87 to 89 on a two year posting and even had coverage and travelled frequently to Afganistan and helped our own representation and business interests pull out when the Soviets military did. Though I think Pakistan was a much better place, the tribal life was basically ingnored which was stupid, because many important people had their origins and (their family roots) there. I think much of the problem was that with the Iranian Revolution and the politicising of the Taliban, the tribal peoples "discovered politics and power' as apposed to simply becoming modern and a part of society. Some argue, including the former Cricket star turned politician Imran Khan that it was more easily embraced as a form of revenge to the more modern delta and plains Punjabi-Pakistanis for ignoring them.

Today, I would not even consider going back and visiting that place and that country is quite possibly destined for civil war for political reasons, let alone the fight against their own Taliban. Probably a cause for another military takeover. Just look at President Zadari, 11 years in jail for fraud and trying to change the law to make himself untouchable.

An auction suggests ownership and title to goods and chattels;in this case some poor 20yr old girl.
    Slavery in plain English!
And what a heart felt demonstration of love and affection from her relatives?
On many occasions on this site we have heard some Muslimahs shouting about their pride and loyalty to Islam.
How can anyone be proud to be a slave?;it suggests mental illness or acceptance of life long servitude through fear of violent punishment.
I'm beginning to think that perverted sado/masochism has a deep root in Islam!

No doubt dear Bronwyn will have a few words(of predictable content) on this one.

One can imagine a conversation between her brother and one of his pals.
    "How's your sister?asks his pal.
Oh !" the brother replies "We put her on the auction block last week;and got a very good price for her."
    Smart move" says his pal.
I've got two of my own".
What do you think if I put them up for auction as a job lot?"
All praise to Allah the compassionate!

Holding a human being for auction in the 21st century is beyond my comprehension.
There is no evidence to support the notion of the world being any better for the advent of Pakistan or it's twin embarrassment:Afghanistan;but by Jove there is evidence in support of the contrary.
Even dogs are happier without fleas.

Me too. It's insane and completely inhuman.
And this other part is really good too...
The auction money was distributed equally among all the brothers of the girl.

So, she is auctioned and the brothers get the money. Isn't that how slave market functioned?
