Petraeus: UAE could take out Iran’s entire air force

Hmmm…From ForeignPolicy.com

U.S. Centcom commander Gen. David Petraeus said last week that the United Arab Emirates, a key U.S. ally in the Persian Gulf, has the capability to overpower Iran’s Air Force.

“The Emirati Air Force itself could take out the entire Iranian Air Force, I believe, given that it’s got … somewhere around 70 Block 60 F-16 fighters, which are better than the U.S. F-16 fighters,” Petraeus said during remarks at a recent conference put on in Bahrain by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

  • Sooner the better, take them all out. The way our lousy Gov. is going, we'll need the UAE to help defend us. Bunch of greedy sissies in the WH, and DC. It's all about them. That DC group is cruising for a bruising, and the sooner the better there too. Kerry Roberts from TN. said: (He is running for 'Bart Simpson's' I meant Bart Gordon's congressional seat in TN.) "It will take a decade for the United States to recover from the Big Gov. take over that is going on now, and the Dems are scared to death of Pelosi and want her out." These bad boys and gals must be stopped or it is going to ruin the country. They know now it was BIG mistake to have Obama as POTUS. Imagine that!!!! It is hurting Israel as well. Roberts said: "It will be the 'Tea Party' group that will decide the next election which will be the dirtiest in the history of our country." Get ready folks, and get tough. GRRRR

I made a commonet that the UAE's military was very strong for such small numbers and a couple of jerks on this blog attempted to ridicule me. Yes the UAE is a strong allie of the US and the West in general and its air-strength and strong stance against Iranian backed shi'ite influence is one reason why it is not an issue there.

Having said that, I will also repeat the context of why I mentioned the UAE. In the event of something rediculous and unthinkable like the use of Nuclear weapons or mass attack by Israel on Iran/Syria, you will find that Pan-Arab solidarity would start and then if there is a hint of "anti-Islam", the UAE will turn on Israel quickly and the Sunni-Shi'ite issue will take a back-burner until that threat is taken out. The UAE itself is in the air a match for Israel and the US would have to make a very big decision if it wants to take sides and break alliances with the commitments with the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Sauid, Oman and Qatar.

What is critical now is that the diplomatic pressure and the non-bais that is currently shown by the US changed and not cause it to look like it is ignoring the values and the effort put in with the other important nations in that region. Iran is isolated and its leader is doing the typical hard-line language for its own domestic consumption and it's brinkmanship is to try and raise the goal-posts to get some benefit that later it can use to ensure his own political survival. As we have seen, he has said that through Bahrain he will do the fuel and rods sale and then the US plaed the same game by saying that there is a trigger. Now Ahmadinejad will raise the stakes and say if his power plants were partially paid for by the west, perhaps we can talk ......... probably his real objective in the first place. The trouble with nutcases like Ahmadinejad and always ignored by so-called-experts is that in the west politicians who play such games just get sacked, but for people like him, he has nothing to lose except his life and so he can if pushed go all the way.

Please excuse my long-winded writing style, I had to do that first in French and then translate, if it something is not understood let me know, I can better explain parts of it. I did my additional studies on Iran and worked on the ME relations desk of the OSCE.

Using nuclear weapons is not unjust if used against the nuclear weapons or nuclear facilities of an aggressive and threatening nation ruled by totalitarian law.

I'm very familiar with brinkmanship, having lived thru the entire Cold War. So far, no one that had nukes has failed to back down from using them, but, none of those leaders appeared to be the religious fanatic Ahmadinejad appears to be. I hope you're right that his rhetoric is for domestic consumption, but I have to ask, what if it isn't?

I don't think Israel plans or would carry out an attack on Iran and Syria, I think they would prefer a surgical strike to try and cripple Iran's develoment of nuclear weapons, and they would not want to be the first to use nukes in any conflict, but faced with nuclear annilhation, if they perceive it coming, they wouldn't hesitate. Time will tell.
