Panty Bomber Groomed by Al Qaeda in London

This story just keeps getting juicer and juicer.  In London, there’s free reign to do pretty much whatever you want in terms of promoting political and violent Islamism.  You see, if you oppose it, you’re tarred and feathered as a bigoted Islamophobe and could get banned from the country like Geert Wilders.  The Panty Bomber was free to organize, recruit, train, plot and plan right in the heart of London where he and his Islamist buddies had free reign to operate at will.  Will the Brits now get their sh** together and start watching all these Islamists more closely? Who knows…

The Christmas Day airline bomb plot suspect organised a conference under the banner “War on Terror Week” as he immersed himself in radical politics while a student in London, The Times has learnt.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, a former president of the Islamic Society at University College London, advertised speakers including political figures, human rights lawyers and former Guantánamo detainees.

One lecture, Jihad v Terrorism, was billed as “a lecture on the Islamic position with respect to jihad”.

Security sources are concerned that the picture emerging of his undergraduate years suggests that he was recruited by al-Qaeda in London. Security sources said that Islamist radicalisation was rife on university campuses, especially in London, and that college authorities had “a patchy record in facing up to the problem”. Previous anti-terrorist inquiries have uncovered evidence of extremists using political meetings and religious study circles to identify potential recruits to be groomed and sent for training.

It emerged last night that Mr Abdulmutallab featured on the periphery of one counterterrorism intelligence operation in Britain.

The event he organised took place in January 2007 and included talks on Guantánamo Bay, the alleged torture of prisoners and the War on Terror.

He is the fourth president of a London student Islamic society to face terrorist charges in three years. One is facing a retrial on charges that he was involved in the 2006 liquid bomb plot to blow up airliners. Two others have been convicted of terrorist offences since 2007.

Mr Abdulmutallab left UCL last year. The Times has learnt that his attempt to renew his student visa in May this year was based on an application to study “life coaching” at a non-existent college. That visa refusal may have saved Britain from an attack. His terrorist training took a new turn in August when he moved to Yemen, ostensibly to study Arabic, and was schooled by al-Qaeda there to carry out an airline attack. He left Yemen in December.

  • Singling out specific countries is pointless. Yes the UK does need to address the radicalisation that is going on in UK universities. But can anybody say for definite that there is no chance a Muslim could be or have been radicalised at a US university? The US, the UK, and many other nations are failing to fully address the radicalisation of Muslims. They are trying to understand Islamic extremism, instead of trying to defeat it. Perhaps the time has come for a gathering like that in Denmark recently, to find a joint approach to tackling terrorism. Every division is advantageous for the terrorists.

    Senior, the bottom line is that muslims are brainwashed slaves of a pseudo-theological social entity. Their actions divide them into two distinct groups....moderate, borderline apostates to islam and biodegradable potential targets for bombs, bullets, knives, spears, and atomic weapons.     And the phukin englanders also banned Michael Savage from entering the country too. He has been very vocal about terrorists and fundamental islam. Europe has had bad leaders for a long time now. I hope the peoples of those continents rise up, like the Persians of Iran, and get rid of diaper-waste leaders!! Go Persians, go!!
