A U.S. military official told Fox News that the blast occured in the Khost province. Eight Americans, who were described as civilians, were killed. The explosion was caused by a homicide bomber, a Defense official told Reuters.
A senior U.S. official in Washington said there were conflicting reports on the total number of casualties. Others were also wounded.
Wazir Pacha, a police spokesman in Khost province, says locals reported hearing a blast on a military base in the area.
