Islam Q&A – What is The Ruling On Underwear?

by Infidelesto on December 30, 2009 · Comments

From the all-knowing Islamic Scholars of Islam-QA.com

A friend of mine told me that wearing the modern under wear is not sunnah. Is this true?

Praise be to Allaah.

Our shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Barraak answered this question as follows:

“Underwear and other types of clothing have to do with habits based on people’s traditions (‘urf), so long as they do not contradict the sharee’ah. The wearing of pants (sirwaal) was known at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) because of the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with them both) concerning what the muhrim (person in a state of ihraam for Hajj or ‘Umrah) is forbidden to wear: ‘The muhrim should not wear a shirt or turban or pants…’ (Agreed upon).”

There is nothing wrong with wearing underwear so long as it does not involve anything that is haraam, such as crosses or pictures of animate beings, or women wearing men’s clothes and vice versa.

Islam Q&A
Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

Notice he doesn’t mention “powdery substance that could destroy an airplane” as haraam.  This question was obviously asked because of the Panty Bomber incident, but Shiek Muhammed couldn’t find the courage to bring it up…

Steve at S&L makes a great point:

We are told that submission and obedience are the very foundation of Islam. So it’s clear that if the Mullahs really wanted to stop terrorism all they would have to do is tell their followers to stop and it would end.

That the top Muslim clerics have not stopped their followers from committing terrorist acts tells us all we need to know about the Religion Of Peace.

    Explosives aren't haraam. Pictures are...

    What a bunch of savages.

Even Tolkien's hellish "Orcs" aren't so primitive as muslims are.

I have blundered on to this site and am very pleased I have. I am English and as such know a lot of Scotsmen from my army days. I'm sure, in their more lucid and sober moments, they will be delighted that the tartan skirt with all its woven crosses and worn by men with no knickers, is pissing the imams off. It will give them another excuse to party. If there was a god would he/she really waste his/her time with such a backward bunch of miserable, superstitious, inbred, doom mongers as the Muslims. They live in paralyzing, strictly prescribed, colective misery. Only relieved by the fanatical prerogative of inflicting their mad, mistaken creed on us and our loved ones.

    Thank you !

Love your words, Paul. (Remember the old joke about the Scots bloke being ask by that lady who wanted to know what's worn under the kilt?)

I think most of us here would agree with your summation Paul.
Your comments are of course most welcome!
  • Welcome, Paul.
