Defne Bayrak, Jalil Abu Mulal Al Balawi’s wife (the suicide bomber who killed 8 CIA agents in Base Chapman, Afghanistan), does not look unappy when she speaks on the phone with ELMUNDO.es of her husband. “I’m not the appropriate person to tell if Jalil is a martyr or not, but I’m proud of him. Martyrdom is above family“, she assures. But Bayrak doesn’t look unhappy and repeats to ELMUNDO.es what she said to Turkish press as a mantra learned by heart. “My husband went last March to Pakistan to obtain and especialization on surgery (Wow, you know, Pakistan has all those famous Medicine Universities…). I didn’t know he was in Afghanistan“. She says she is “shocked” by those news which say that her husband was a CIA or Jordanian intelligence agent. According to AP agency, Al Balawi was three days imprisoned in March and it was then when the devout 32-year-old doctor was persuaded to collaborate with CIA in the capture of Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Al-Qaeda no.2. Al Balawi went to Afghanistan and went on giving some news to the US agents about Bin Laden’s group.
“I spoke with my husband 6 weeks ago, and he wrote me an email 10 days ago. He told me that he was planning to come back to Istambul and ask for Turkish citizenship“, she says while acknowledging that she knew of her husband’s death because “a friend” phoned her from Pakistan. Nevertheless, according to some sources from Turkish security forces who have talked with ELMUNDO.es, his widow received a call from Afghanistan two weeks ago and Al Balawi had contact with several Jihadist colleagues.
Bayrak has a bachelor in Journalism from Istambul University. She has written several articles in Islamist publications and translated a book on Sadam Hussein.
“I’m very proud of my husband. He has made a great operation in this war. I hope Allah accepts his sacrifice and converts him into a martyr“, she told Turkish MSM.
