McDonald’s tries not to offend Muslims by leaving pig out of toy collection, instead offends Chinese. Then Apologizes to Chinese

The real problem here, as I see it, is the principle of appeasement involved here. McDonalds, and anyone else, should not have to worry about offending someone if what they are doing is not meant to offend. If someone is offended, let them say so, but no apology should be necessary if the offense was unintentional. Unfortunately, there are those in this world, need I name names? That take perceived offenses to another level and express themselves with violence without even waiting for a possible apology. McDonald's. and other public entities, are forced to take that into account, and by being forced, often make even greater mistakes, leading to greater misunderstandings. The damage has been done, the cycle has begun and seems irreversible, and laying blame does no good. We all have to live with it, and get some laughs out of it, for those of us that see the humor in it.

This is quite funny and outrageous. I don't think it's a reason for McDonald's to leave out the pig character because they don't want to offend Muslims. If they are releasing the soft toy characters because of the Chinese New Year, then they should keep things as is. Anyway, they have already apologized so let's forget about it.

Agree, this is a big nothing from a nothing. I am not sure what is the source of all this crap and then the poster just loooooves to use that Islam word......Islam this and Islam that. John your talking out of your hat, or worse.

Reality, there are some radicals that demand rubbish and somehow are getting it, OK that is fine, but then the generalization starts and it is all rubbish.

Let's give examples. MacDonalds in Morocco, many stores, four now in Rabat, same in Marrakech, obviously more in Casablanca and then there are those in Meknes, Fez, Tanger and even some dumpy city called Kenitra. They had the Toy Story children's happy meal - yep with a Pig. Mmmmmm how bad is that eh!!!! Nobody cared. I should have took a photo of the lady in the Burqa the other day lifting the viel bit to try and eat a french fry ........ mmmm no boycott dude! The photo would have been perfect to post as it also showed the other people, obviously Muslims looking at her with distaste, burqas are not popular in Morocco.

So, as per MacDonalds policy they try and create a regional burger, like in The Netherlands they have the MacKroketten, my brother tells me there is a MacAussie burger and in North Africa there is the MacArabia. All the regular burgers are of course available.

Basically, nothing different. Like I posted before, in Tunis there was an attempt by some radical cleric to demand a boycott calling MacDonalds not halal (they obviously are and go to great lengths with support and certification etc, so what was the result. John and others would imagine violence and bombings and loss of money, rapes in the kitchen etc. No, it was ignored and laughed at and in fact MacDonalds had increased sales and even though they did not encourage, now in Tunis a Big Mac is referred to as a MacFatwa.

Yep, just more nonesense.

ps, John, were is the item about Gunsights with biblical terms, Patraeus refers to it as disturbing. The company is now stopping the program. Note, here in the Muslim world there is no big story about it, demonstrations or the like, we understand some people just go a bit to far.

Muslim groups react angrily on Wednesday after it emerged that the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan were using rifle sights with coded religious references.
The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) called on US Defence Secretary Robert Gates to immediately withdraw from combat use equipment found to have inscriptions of Biblical references. It followed a report from ABC television which revealed that michigan-based contractor Trijicon had sold up to 800,000 of the sights to the US military which were being used in combat. The report said the religious codes appeared to be a violation of US military rules prohibiting proselytising of nay religion in Iraq or Afgahnistan.
A statement posted on the Trijicon website said: "As part of our faith and belief in service to our country, Trijicon has put scripture references on our products from more then two decades. The company told ABC there was nothing illegal in putting the references on the gun sights, but the MPAC protested the moves.

As for the McDonald's removing the toy pig in their collectibles, yes I think they over reacted but also I think they did that as a precautionary measure as you probably know there are so many ridiculous, absurd and laughable fatwas which varies from country to country... and you'll never what will hit you.

That seems like a good idea;when American weapons fall into the hands of the Muslim enemy a label such as lubricated with pig lard or Allah is a fraud might deter their reuse.

I am sorry guys, but you are spreading hatreds and violence in the place, where there is no reason to do this.

Muslims are living peacefully in Singapore and they don't have any problem with any body, and it were not them to ask McDonalds to remove pig toys from their stores, but the McDonalds itself decided to do so stupid action!

And you guys are now spreading hatreds and propagating violence against Muslims when in fact Muslims are not bothering with this issue, but are making from this thing some big issue!

The point is to show how pathetic people have come in their cowardice to Islam. It's called dhimmitude. Giving up your own personal freedom so Muslims don't kill you. Meanwhile in America you have "Piss Christ" being displayed in museums and Christians are offended but nobody is afraid to offend Christians because they know they're a non-violent bunch.
