Obama Calls On Parties To Transcend “Petty Politics”

as his own Press Secretary Robert Gibbs mocks Sarah Palin from the White House Podium

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs mocked Sarah Palin during a press briefing today, according to the AP (via Breitbart), by showing reporters the words “hope” and “change” written on his hand at the start of his remarks. The AP notes the press corps reaction:

Many in the room, where President Barack Obama had spoken just moments before about the need for bipartisanship, groaned at the political shot.

Now before you all dog-pile me, I understand that the irony of calling for an end to petty politics followed by Gibb's actions. It's not lost on me, and it's pretty odd that Gibb didn't decide to extend an olive branch instead of taking shots. However...

Sarah Palin is not a pillar of the conservatives. She's an overpriced shill and thus attacking her doesn't really constitute an attack on the conservative movement. It was petty of Gibb to sink that low, since name calling and snide criticism(Oh yah, the whole hopey changy thing didn't work owt, did it naa) is Sarah Palin's tactic. Criticize her before asking Gibb to be more civil

You guys clearly haven't seen the Daily Show/Colbert Report take on this whole deal. Sarah Palin had three words a complete moron could have memorized written on the palm of her hand. Energy, Tax cuts, Lift American spirit. There's no positive way to spin such crippling stupidity

That's just funny as s***. Issues aside, you have to admit that Sarah Palin came off looking like a complete tool. She couldn't memorize those three words? They're repeated in conservative circles AD NAUSEUM, and she needed to remember them? Plus as I understand, they tossed her a 100K for the speech. Seems like she could just remember the details a bit more next time.

    http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/national-... (damn MSM)

I get McCain, and I was fascinated by the depth of his campaign proposals on matters like pork barrel spending and defense. But Palin? Really just seems like you're standing up for her out of principle. Even if you agree with the woman's politics, seems like you could concede that she looked like an airhead. It's not like I defend Chris Matthews for 'forgetting Obama's blackness'.

As for Gibbs being fat, boring, unfunny, or unable to reply to critics:
He is clearly skilled at responding to his administration's critics in a timely and expeditious manner. Not to mention a hilarious one.
  • SirWilhelm
If you compare how the media has portrayed Palin with Obama since she was nominated for VP, there's a world of difference. Obama was seen as the new Messiah, omnipotent and unfailable, how's that working out for ya? Palin has been personally attacked mercilessly as though she was the greatest threat to the country ever known. As far as I can see, she would have been a better President, let alone VP, than Obama has been in his one year in office. Palin's not perfect, but I don't know anyone that is, and I don't see the Messiah anywhere. I don't know who is going to run in 2012, but I don't see any real leader types stepping up, and I don't know if this country has, or will have, anymore.
  • mazabdul
It's working out for us like anyone who ever elected a representative thinking the man could walk on water. That's just a lack of proper cynicism for politics. A Chomsky book could remedy that. What confuses me, SirW, is that you're not sure if he's ineffective or a commie operative. And I cannot emphasize this enough. No one in their right mind (aside from wolves and moose, I guess) was actually afraid of Palin. We just made fun of her a lot, because she was (and most definitely still is) a moron and a quitter. That simple. No policy. No ruining America. We have no serious qualms with her because it's just so hard to take her seriously. It really is. She's just not a person I see going within a mile of politics. Now if you have a problem with Barack Obama so much that you would consider absolutely ANYONE to be a better candidate, that's a different story. You just hate his 'policies' so much that you would rather a shoe in the office. So basically, there's no real need for Sarah Palin to make a tea party gathering a laughingstock. What shocks me so much is that these are intro-level PR mistakes that a f***ing high school teenager knows not to make and she just KEEPS GOING.
There's something to be said for taking matters too seriously
  • hellosnackbar
I'm beginning to believe you're quite a clear thinker Maz!
The array of possible GOP candidates to oppose Bazza in 2012 is characterised by their apparrent lack of intellectual acumen.
Just look at the motley bunch on show!
    Bobby(the backward)Jindal,Bible Spice Palin,Mike(the Mormon)Suckabee,Mit(the Ruminant)Romney.
All Bible punching(or BOM punching in Suckabee's case) creationist morons.
It's no wonder that SR continually sounds the bugle for the founding fathers;because these talented gents were
    by anyone's standards intellectual titans.
The GOP must be struggling if thinkers amongst them would give any of these dimwits house room.
My personal choice if that's the best they can do would be Jeb Bush.(at least he's not totally daft)
Surely there's someone of Barry Goldwater's caliber about?
Because if this is the line up then the GOP will become a legion of the lost.
And the Demonstrablycraps. will win by default.
Beej let's have your view on this?
  • I don't understand why you have such contempt for these candidates. Is it their religious beliefs? Sort of sounds like it.

For me, it's not even about religion. It's about values and principles. So we have, as it stands, Romney, Palin, Huckabee, maybe Jindal, Newt, Pawlenty, Scott Brown and a few others. Let me just say, none of them are perfect. Not one. But their values (conservative for the most part, some more than others) are what are important.

Judeo Christian values combined with the originalist mindset are what drives me. Personally, I was raised Christian but I don't practice because I don't think the whole story has been told. I'm agnostic more than anything. I believe there is an explanation for the unexplainable (miracles, ghosts, psychic intuition, etc) but I don't think any one religion can nail it down with the truth. The universe is too massive. There are other worlds just like us out there somewhere with their own interpretation of religion as well. We are a speck of dust in the Sahara.

That being said, I don't see how Palin being religious has anything to do with politics. She holds the same values as agnostics and atheists too. The whole "creationist" argument is stale. Not one of these candidates wants to replace evolution in the schools with creationism. Have they advocated that Intelligent design be included in the curriculum? Sure. What's wrong with more than one point of view? Billions of people believe there's some sort of creator of the universe. We should not vilify those with contemptible vice words like "creationist". It's not accurate.

As far as these candidates go, like I said before none of them are perfect, but any one of them are LIGHT YEARS beyond any liberal socialist Democrat.

They stand for the principles that I always talk about on this blog. A small and limited federal government, States rights, Individual responsibility, free markets, capitalism, energy independence (not protectionism), strong national security and military, fiscal responsibility, low taxes and non-political correctness

These candidates stand for all those things. The media has painted Palin in the worst possible light imaginable. The only time you see the real Palin is when she talks directly to the American people. I don't think she's perfect either, but you can tell she has the wisdom of a strong leader. Is she a Harvard elite? Of course not. I think that's a good thing. But she knows and cherishes her values and principles, the same principles that both "creationists" and "atheists" hold.

Also you got Romney and Huckabee mixed up. Romney is the Mormon. I don't like Huck as much because his record is somewhat questionable with certain decisions he's made and I put Romney in that same boat. I don't rule them out, but it's tough to know where they stand. We need to see more of them. Jindal, Newt, Brown, Pawlenty all have qualities that would be better than any single Democrat, but they all have their own baggage in some way shape or form.

Remember too there may be other candidates that start to emerge. There's still so much time before 2012. So much can happen.
  • hellosnackbar
John I partially agree with you!
I have no love for the backwardness and dogma that the democraps hold dear.
I've always held sociologists as the most egregious conmen in the world today;they believe the worthless cant as
promulgated by post modernist deconstruction and similar(almost religious doctrine).
This is the foundation for the nonsense we now know as political correctness.
A basically crypto Marxist dogma imported by the infamous "Frankfurt School just prior to the outbreak of WW2
I'm sure SR is more knowledgeable than I am on this subject.
With respect to GOP candidates my anxiety is that America almost certainly has much more able and better educated possible candidates than those I've mentioned(eg Victor Davis Hansen).
The POTUS is the world's biggest job!
A job with responsibility above and beyond anything that I could possibly manage with confidence.
A case in point was M rs Thatcher;;when I first saw he I was doubtful .
But when I saw her in action against the Labour opposition I became rapidly a devoted fan.
She could think on her feet and made metaphorical mincemeat of her opponent(the Welsh Windbag Neil Kinnock)
She was fearless (Ronnie loved her);to the point where her radical views cut deeply into conventional conservatives which she disparagingly referred to as "the wets".
America (and by extension)the civilised world needs someone like that.
Not some cardboard showman playing to a quasi religious gallery.
We need a new Thomas Jefferson
I'm not saying that the POTUS should be an atheist;but on reading the balderdash from the "teaparties"
I'm filled with gloom at the prospect of the GOP choosing some intellectual pygmy as presidential candidate.
Hopefully some able man or woman will step up to the plate.
  • hellosnackbar
As an addendum to the above I believe the best possible future president would be Bill Gates.
He ticks all the boxes for me.
And it would be a stellar finale to an illustrious career!
Come on Bill what are you waiting for.
Campaign funding shouldn't be much of a problem.
Ask yourself does Bill Gates have what it takes?
  • mazabdul
Ah but who would he choose as a running mate?
  • hellosnackbar
I'm sure Bill knows enough people with the requisite talent.
    How about Steve Jobs?
Or would there be an ego clash?
  • JEWHAWK
Whoever wins, he/she MUST be a fiscally conservative president.
    Today, America is BROKE.

To fix the situation, it'd take at least three presidential terms
following a very hard, conservative stance vis-à-vis monetary
    expansion.

The GOP has excellent people who spouses such fiscally conservative
thought, chiefly the brilliant Paul Ryan.
  • but Obama not being able to sleep without coddling his teleprompter is
somehow an act of genius? Get real. Everyone does or has done this. The
fact that she scribled a couple notes to help her stay focused means
nothing. Her words are substantive and not empty like Obama's always are.
He's the same crap over and over until you're so bored you don't even know
what he said. Obama is the joke, not Palin.
  • mazabdul
He didn't read off a prompter when addressing the Republicans, as I recall. Additionally, a teleprompter is a way to avoid having to memorize an actual speech. You know, with words and paragraphs and sh**. Sorry Infidelisto, the prompter is way less retarded (she okayed that word for satire, mind you) than the hand notes.
I can't stress this enough. The woman is a moron. There are literally mountains of evidence indicating that if not a bad politician, she is at the very least a giant bucket of stupid. Really don't need to stress that. This is not about be asking you to reconsider your beliefs. It is an honest appeal to your common sense and logic. The woman has monkey jizz for brains.
Writing three vacuous words that are pretty much all Tea-party goers ever talk about...not so "substantive and not empty". I mean, sh** Infidelisto, I'm not a Tea-Party keynote speaker and even I know what in the hell the people want to hear (the people at tea party rallies, mind you, not the American people).
And of course Obama's speeches are not given a unanimous opinion by your pundits. They simultaneously call it empty nonsense as well as a call to socialist arms. Which is it? Is he just another politician who made empty promises or is he the scion of all evil in America?
  • JEWHAWK
" The woman has monkey jizz for brains "

    " The woman is a moron "

" She is at the very least a giant bucket of stupid(ity)."

" She represents the Homer Simpsons of America "

It seems that you are really pissed off about her gender. You really hate
to see women in politics, don't you ?
Look at what you've said :
" you need to get rid of the Sarah Palins of your party "

So, no more women in power, huh?

It's a very ARAB manner to see the world, don't you concur ?

The Arab/ muslim culture is a DISGRACE for women and gay's rights.
Your very presence in this blog is a disgrace per se, mazabdul.

Why don't you change your freaky nickname to MADABDUL?
  • mazabdul
No, but I acknowledge your strengths in demagoguery, straw-man argumentation and racism. That you would come to the conclusion that my ethnicity in any way defines my world view is nothing short of frivolous. Let me help you understand the error in your logic. My statement can be delineated as follows.
P1: Sarah Palin is a stupid woman
P2: Stupid people hurt a political party's ability to advance
C: Sarah Palin must be removed from the party
Allow me to furnish your logic in a mathematical fashion
P1: Mazen has pointed out how stupid Sarah Palin is ( a view commonly held by most comedians, journalists or 'Joe Six Pack's in the world)
P2: Any individual who points out how stupid and vacuous someone is based on press footage, quotes and of course listening to that person - is an evil sexist
    C: Mazen is a sexist
Logically, in P2, you've committed a serious logical error. One of massive speculation coupled with a blinding lack of insight. Conservatives hedged criticism of their party for hating a black man in the presidency by arguing that they hated 'his policies'. What they didn't realize was that we didn't need to resort to calling them racists to point out how asinine their criticisms are. The arguments hold based on the policies, it turns out. As do they with Palin

Since I never made any statements tying me to Arab/Muslim culture, we can logically agree that I am in fact a member of neither. I'm not even an apologist. I don't condone any form of archetypal Arabic society or that of Muslim society, and I challenge you to find me a point in time when I agreed with Orientalism or Islamicism

I could kindly point out that the Republican party is not very committed to women's rights either, since most of its members are men. We could explore the theory that Sarah Palin is a sort of 'token' woman in the party. It seems like a sort of 'Affirmative Action' policy practiced by the Conservatives. I could also point out that women like Ann Coulter have argued against the right of women to vote. Or I could point out that the conservatives are throwing a bitch fit at the moment over the possible repealing of 'Don't ask, Don't tell'. Huh. Looks like Conservatives hate women and gays whatever race or creed they are.

See how pleasant a debate is when you stick to the issues at hand and you don't drift off into senseless ranting?
  • For me you are a muzz, maybe a member of hezbollah and your nickname is not American,a American or a Westener don't choose a name so Ugly like that one. Muslims have no names as we conceive it,you are a bunch of Zombie,i think your name is 'abdhullah' who means 'servant of Allah' or 'Slave of Allah' It is a common Islamic name that is favored because it indicates servitude and before allah.
Alls muslims are Slaves and Stinky Trash and you are one of them.An advice get back in your Cesspool call 'pisslam' and Sunk in it.
Have a nice day The Happy Slave...Bizouuu x
  • Most of all the muzz names are related to the stupid cosmology of the coran and hadith but sometimes they have some little imagination as for example i found ' Itaf - Clork ' ' Itab - Censure ' Iyass - Compensation ' Yumnah - the right side ' Wisam - Badge of Honor ' and on and on Forever......
Just your name 'Abdhull the Maboul ' demonstrates that Islam is completely insane,we do not need any other evidence it is sufficient. Bizouu x
Ps : (Maybe your real name is Itaf ( Clork )....who knows !)
  • mazabdul
Verily sir, I cannot argue with someone of your caliber and prominence. You shock and awe me with your superior command of logic, reason and language and quite frankly I think it's unfair that someone of your intellectual caliber should prey on someone as ignorant as myself.
Clearly you've earned some sort of PhD in the finer arts (i'm not sure what discipline, I'm far too moronic for that) and this has made you some sort of megalithic mind. Porky, sir, I know when to admit when I have been bested.
Carry on your crusade for the finer ideals of life, such as free speech, without which we would be deprived of people like yourself.
Guess I'll go back to beating my wife or killing an adulterer or whatever it is us Arabs do. Thanks to you, I can finally come to terms with the fact that I'm actually a Muslim. This whole time I was laboring under the assumption that I was an anti-theist. Of course, it's also my fault for refusing to purchase a time machine and making sure I was born to a nice European or American family. Guess I'll go give the Americans my passport now, given the compelling arguments you made that 'a American don't choose a name so Ugly like that one'. I might have to have the grammar in that analyzed by the way, it seems you were busy huffing paint at the time. Carry on the crusade, looney tunes character!
  • Thank's Abdhul Ali ( Slave of the High one ) I appreciate your honesty i know you are very busy collecting money for the Hezboullah, I just spoke with abdhul Awwal ( Slave of the First One ) and Abdhul Badee ( Slave of the originator ) at the corner street...and guess who I saw the other side of the street on the sidewalk...Well, Aduz Zahir ( Slave of the Manifest ) Asifa ( Organiser ),Kawkab ( Satellite ), with his boyfriends Hajib ( Doorman, janitor ) and Mahja ( Place to sleep, quarters, lodgings ) Hey ! Hey !....they were planted a bomb on the roadside like all good Muslims...but Itaf ( Clork ) in the meantime arrived and told them that the clock were defective....If these people are not the Crazy, I don't know who they are ?
Bizouuu Wisam ( BADGE OF HONOR ) Putain de Crétin !
  • "I can't stress this enough. The woman is a moron"

Sorry but you're just repeating the idiotic talking point that the Left
keeps glibly trotting out hoping people will believe them. But guess what,
it's not resonating with real people throughout America. Sarah represents
the majority of America and the Left are doing everything in their power to
discredit her and destroy her. The same exact crap that happened in the
80's when the leftist media tried to portray Reagan as some "dumb actor". We
all saw how that turned out. Wisdom is much more valuable than any sort
of Harvard elitist intellect. Obama may be a pseudo-intellectual, but his
wisdom and leadership is woefully lacking. How stupid do you have to be to
read a teleprompter witha bunch of children in the room? How stupid do you
have to be to read a teleprompter with only 12 other politicians in the
room. Give me a break. You LOSE on the merits, Maz. you can't back up
    anything claims you make.

"The woman has monkey jizz for brains."

No amount of smear you toss out makes you believable, much less accurate.
You can't point to one thing that Palin has done that I can't point to 5
    that Obama's done worse.
  • mazabdul
It's not a smear campaign Infidelisto, she's just a funny person to watch. She sounds like Margie from Fargo, has zero foreign policy knowledge, has no depth in her policies, advocates family values despite lacking them in her own family...the list goes on and on and it's ridiculous. You know how the liberals were stuck with boring bookworms for a long time? Well, you need to get rid of the Sarah Palins of your party if you want to do more than preach to a choir of pissed off upper-class citizens. Republicans are pretty active when it comes to voting, Democrats not so much. So the Republicans just need to bring more people over from the other side, and an expensive suit is not the way.
"Sarah represents the majority of America"
No she does not represent the majority of America, she just goes around blabbing about empty crap like 'Joe Six Pack' all day. You could say she represents the Homer Simpsons of America. You want to know what 'the majority of Americans' I know do, whenever she opens that yap of hers? Laugh uproariously
Infidelisto, she is comedy GOLD. People who have NO knowledge of politics whatsoever - find the woman to be a veritable riot. Now we're really just debating what's funny or not.
Oh and I'm pretty sure the 'MSM smear' is evened out by FOX News giving her a permanent position to get her ass kissed for no apparent reason. O'Reilly argued with Stewart that FOX News is fair and balanced - explain how Glenn Beck can drool over the woman for no good reason. And turn an interview into a love letter. I've seen Christians laugh at jokes about Jesus Infidelisto (we both know how Muslims react), can't you just loosen up a bit and realize that this woman is the height of hilarity?
  • This administration....er....regime, acts like a FRAT HOUSE. No, not even that advanced, more like High School. Pitiful, hypocritical.
  • stompkitty: LOL I believe you meant 'FART HOUSE' I transpose letters sometimes myself. High School, is again too high advanced for these Kindergarten slow learning brats. hahahaha My dog likes your Psychology.

Gibbs is a twit. His boss, dingleberry, cannot speak ANYWHERE without his teleprompter and so he makes fund of someone with a few notes on her hand. Twit.
  • TWIT, is a good word for that sissy Gibbs, among other things. hahahaha
  • JEWHAWK
    President Mac Daddy Dingleberry Hussein...

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!
  • JEWHAWK: Perfect name for that prick Obama. You are ingenious! We need a re-call on this greedy friggin' lying government. The brakes don't work for these 'spendaholics.' The government's accelerator is stuck, on health care, cap and trade, taxation without representation, you name it, and it is headed down a dead end road. Good enough!
    GRRRRRR
  • JEWHAWK
    Don't forget the GLOBAL WARMING...

Ljcarolyne, while Hussein McDaddy / Hillariously gave 900 million Dollars
to the TERRORISTS in Gaza, they CANCELLED NASA's program to go
    back to the moon...

After PROMISING during the 2008 campaign to augment NASA's budget !!

What a weasel, Mac Daddy,double-crosser, COMMUNIST president America has !!!
  • JEWHAWK: Obama is not interested in the MOON, no one there to steel, kill, and destroy. Wasted trip for him, he wants to put America's money up His, that is His MO. You bet, ya! Just like the devil, in John 10:10. Obama could care less about anyone except himself alone. It's ALL ABOUT OBAMA.
  • JEWHAWK: BAM The BIG BANGER Global Warming HOAX, what a fool this administration is, they are looking more stupid every day. Obama just needs to promise to resign and keep his word for a change. Love your name calling. I would add to it but I need to quit cussing, and you covered it . . . right on. Thanks! LOL
  • Gibbs is not funny, just funny looking and must not have any brains if he has to make a list on his hand. LOL Let's not be petty - for sure???? How petty can you get BTW! GRRRRR
  • JEWHAWK
President Hussein's sudden "soft" move is nothing but a shrewd
trap to engulf the gullible Republicans such as McCain,Graham and McConnel.
He's gonna throw back ALL absurdities that are written in the Democratic
proposal for the Health Care Reform, KNOWING that it's not acceptable
    even for several Democrats...
WHEN the answer from the GOP is known, Mr.Hussein is gonna blame the
bipartisan effort's failure fully on the Republicans, as if he was really interested
    in doing so.

Funny, this new approach towards the Republicans only happened AFTER
    Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts...what a coincidence!

    GIBBS:

I've been saying this since the inauguration of President Hussein...
    Robert Gibbs is a jerk.
Dana Perino wouldn't make such a joke before the White House Press
    Corps...NEVER.
    Why ?
Because she was a PROFESSIONAL. A classy one.
Gibbs stutters all the time, doesn't answer the questions properly, change
the subject as soon as he realizes that his boss would be smoked by the
    question...
And what about his GIGGLING ?
    Isn't that moron a grown man ?

    Aha...He's AFRAID of Sarah Palin...

NOW the GOP has strong candidates !

    1) Mitt Romney
    2) Sarah Palin
    3) Scott Brown
    4) Paul Ryan
    5) Marco Rubio
  • Right, Right. Right! As always. I can't stand that jerk Gibbs, his giggling is girlish. Have you noticed that the guys around Obama could pass for gay, Hummmm? What does that say to you! GRRRRR
