Ah yes, Sean Penn defending a guy who’s taken over pretty much every aspect of the Venezuelan economy.
At the end of a discussion of Haiti on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, actor Sean Penn went on a rant in defense of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, suggesting prison time for American journalists: “every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it! And accept it. And this is mainstream media, who should – truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies.”
This is a little strange, since a study by our Business and Media Institute of Chavez coverage from 1998 to 2006 found Chavez’s much-criticized human rights record was mentioned in only ten percent of stories, and he was described as a leftist in only 12 percent of stories. Maher shifted to Chavez and the end of the Haiti interview, asking Penn to make a case for his man Chavez:
PENN: The collaborative opportunity in Haiti, when you talk about Hugo Chavez, and some of the other people who are demonized [think Castro], and you know, when some of these countries accuse us of an occupation — where I believe this was strictly a humanitarian action by the United States military, and an incredible one – I’m a little sympathetic. Because every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it! And accept it. And this is mainstream media, who should – truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies.

Nobody knows what conservatives want? If you mean there are disagreements on the right about how limited the government should be or what our foreign policy should be, then you have a point. But liberals have the same problem. The current health care debacle has nothing to do with conservatives and EVERYTHING to do with Democrats who can't agree on a health bill. To me it seems more like Democrats don't know what they want.

Actually people attended the CPAC chiefly to hear Beck. Many GOP's figures are corrupt,
don't represent their constituencies well and are afraid of a possible creation of a “third party”.

I'm not against taxation. I am against the PROGRESSIVE Income Tax which has created tremendous inequalities in who pays taxes and how much. I'd like to see tax reform, and I like the idea of a national sales tax to replace the Income Tax, but getting rid of it is the first step. Through legislation, naturally.

None of us agree with everything Fox says, but anyone that watches Fox can see they are as fair and balanced as you can humanly expect these days, at least in their news, and they make a clear distinction between their news programs and their opinion programs. I have my differences of opinion with Beck, and even more so with O'Rielly, but they are right most of the time. But all you see are the ratings and it bothers you. Why? If they are putting out a false product, why don't more people see it the way you do? Why do so many watch it? Or is it you that doesn't see the truth? That chooses to watch what the minority watches because you cling to the beliefs you all share? There's more than one way to vote in this country, and for Fox, the people vote with their remotes, as you do with yours, who's winning?
