Suit calls out pro-Muslim, anti-Christian actions
A national public-interest law firm that defends and promotes America’s Christian values has filed a federal lawsuit for what it calls an “egregious violation” of the constitutional rights of Christians by police in Dearborn, Michigan. The Michigan-based Thomas More Law Center has announced it is filing a federal lawsuit against the city of Dearborn, its mayor and chief of police, as well as 17 other police officers and two executives of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce. The suit is in relation to the treatment of Christians by police during two separate incidents during Dearborn’s Annual International Arab Festival in June 2010.
Robert Muise is senior trial counsel for the Law Center. He says his clients were harassed and arrested for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“This was an egregious violation of fundamental constitutional rights,” he states. “These peaceful Christian missionaries were placed in handcuffs and taken away to jail for the night — that was the sort of thing that was going on in the city of Dearborn.”There was more, according to Muise.
“Meanwhile, while they’re being taken away in handcuffs, the police officers are being applauded and cheered by crowds of Muslims who came to watch them take these Christian missionaries away in handcuffs,” the attorney explains. “And so there is this sort of submission, if you will, to the Muslim desires in the city of Dearborn, which is very frightening and very troubling.”
Muise says the ultimate goal of the lawsuit is to vindicate their clients’ constitutional right to share the gospel and prevent similar harassment of Christian missionaries in the future.
