Obama adviser: Israel must give up its nukes

May 01st 2008

More appeasement from the lefties. Gotta love it!!!

JERUSALEM – Israel should give up its nuclear weapons to ensure Iran halts its illicit nuclear program, argues an adviser on nuclear issues to Sen. Barack Obama.

Joseph Cirincione, director of nuclear policy at the Center for American Progress, also previously dismissed reports Israel’s Sept. 6 airstrike targeted a Syrian nuclear reactor as “nonsense” and called Damascus’ nuclear program “miniscule.”

Immediately following Israel’s air raid, Cirincione listed “Israelis [who] want to thwart any dialogue between the U.S. and Syria” as among those spreading rumors Syria was constructing a nuclear facility.

Cirincione was commenting on a Sept. 13 Washington Post story about possible links between Syria and North Korea.

Wow this guy is a real genius!!! Because of him we now know that all we have to do is lay down our arms and muslim terrorists from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iran et al, will stop targeting Israeli civilians and calling for the destruction of the Jewish State.

Azerbaijan blocks Russian nuke shipment to Iran

Kind of like watching an interception by your favorite team’s defense against your most hated division rival.

NICOSIA — Iran has reported that a shipment of Russian nuclear equipment was being held in neighboring Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan, an ally of the United States, has acknowledged the delay. The Azeri government said it has sought to determine whether the nuclear shipment violated United Nations Security Council sanctions on Iran.

At least SOMEONE gives a crap about obeying and enforcing UN Sanctions on Iran. But that doesn’t stop them from crying about it.

Iranian officials said their Foreign Ministry has demanded that Azeri authorities release the nuclear equipment, Middle East Newsline reported. They said the equipment, intended for the Bushehr nuclear energy reactor, was held up at the Iranian-Azeri border.

Update On Syrian Nuke Reactor Hit By Israeli Air Force

April 28th 2008

Syrian reactor capacity was 1-2 weapons/year: CIA

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A suspected Syrian reactor bombed by Israel had the capacity to produce enough nuclear material to fuel one to two weapons a year, CIA Director Michael Hayden said on Monday.

Hayden said the plutonium reactor was within weeks or months of completion when it was destroyed in an air strike last September 6, and within a year of entering operation it could have produced enough material for at least one weapon.

So Iraq is beset on both sides by a potential nuclear threat.

“In the course of a year after they got full up, they would have produced enough plutonium for one or two weapons,” Hayden told reporters after a speech.

The reactor was of a “similar size and technology” to North Korea’s Yongbyon reactor, Hayden said, disputing speculation it was smaller than the Korean facility.

“We would estimate that the production rate there would be about the same as Yongbyon, which is about enough plutonium for one or two weapons per year,” he said.

Hayden’s comments were the first statement on the suspected reactor’s capacity, and his first public remarks since the United States released photos of what it said was a secret nuclear reactor built with North Korean aid.

Syria has denied the U.S. charges and accused Washington of involvement in the air attack by Israel, which is believed to have the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East.

Of course Syria denied the charge. They also denied that terrorists were entering Iraq as early as 2004. Well, we have the solace of knowing that Israel acted to prevent the threat of a nuclear Syria. Thank God for that. Read the rest courtesy of Yahoo! News.

Krauthammer: Bush should issue “Holocaust Declaration”

April 11th 2008

In the same way John F Kennedy did during the Cuban Missile crisis.

Krauthammer nails it, as usual. The Bush administration and the UN have failed in their attempts to deter Iran from getting nukes, so there are only a couple options left. Use of Force…or what Krauthammer calls the “Holocaust Declaration” and should read…

It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear attack upon Israel by Iran, or originating in Iran, as an attack by Iran on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon Iran.

This should be followed with a simple explanation: “As a beacon of tolerance and as leader of the free world, the United States will not permit a second Holocaust to be perpetrated upon the Jewish people.”

This policy — the Holocaust Declaration — would establish a firm benchmark that would outlive this administration. Every future president — and every serious presidential candidate — would have to publicly state whether or not he supports the Holocaust Declaration.

It is an important question to ask because it will not be uncontroversial. It will be argued that the Holocaust Declaration is either redundant or, at the other extreme, provocative.

Redundant, it will be said, because Israel could retaliate on its own. The problem is that Israel is a very small country with a small nuclear arsenal that could be destroyed in a first strike. During the Cold War, both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. created vast and invulnerable submarine fleets to ensure a retaliatory strike and, thus, deterrence. The invulnerability and unimaginably massive size of this American nuclear arsenal would make a U.S. deterrent far more potent and reliable than any Israeli facsimile — and thus far more likely to keep the peace.

Would such a declaration be provocative? On the contrary. Deterrence is the least provocative of all policies. That is why it is the favored alternative of those who oppose a pre-emptive attack on Iran. What the Holocaust Declaration does is turn deterrence from a slogan into a policy.

China helping with Iran crisis?

April 02nd 2008

They have handed over important evidence to the IAEA that supports allegations that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon.  Looks to be a good first step in their cooperation with stopping Iran from getting the bomb.

Zip points out also: Could this be China’s attempt at repairing its international image ahead of the Olympics?

Diplomats say that China has given the U.N. nuclear watchdog intelligence linked to Tehran’s alleged attempts to make nuclear arms.

The development is surprising because Beijing, along with Russia, has opposed U.S.-led attempts to impose harsh penalties on Tehran over its nuclear defiance of the U.N. Security Council.

Any Chinese decision to provide information to the International Atomic Energy Agency thus seems to reflect growing international unease over Iran’s atomic agenda.

The diplomats spoke to The Associated Press earlier this week and Wednesday. They asked for anonymity because their information is confidential.

CIA chief: I personally believe Iran is seeking nukes

March 31st 2008

Will anyone listen? Or just another story swept under the rug by the MSM?

JPost

CIA director General Michael Hayden said on Sunday he believed that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

In an interview to NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ Hayden said the CIA stood by November’s National Intelligence Estimate, which assessed that Teheran halted its nuclear weapons program in the fall of 2003.

“We stand by the judgment,” he said, but added that the report “unfortunately, tends to get oversimplified in public discourse.” For instance, he said, “another part of the report that we emphasized is that program that stopped in 2003. It was [clear] they were weaponizing, building the actual device. It remains a program that the Iranians continue to deny ever existed. And the other aspects of the Iranian nuclear effort beyond the weaponization - the development of fissile material, the development of delivery systems - all continue apace.”

Asked whether he believed the Iranians were trying to develop a nuclear weapons program, Hayden replied: “Personal belief? Yes.”

Report: Iranian Nuke within months

February 25th 2008

From Jerusalem Post via NoisyRoom

By REBECCA ANNA STOIL

While a set of European-run simulations could indicate that Iran will be ready to build an atomic bomb sooner than anyone predicted, uranium enrichment is only one of three benchmarks the rogue nation will have to reach before it is ready to launch a nuclear attack against Tel Aviv, former National Security Council head Maj.-Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday.

On Friday, Germany’s Der Spiegel newspaper reported on a computer simulation run at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, through which scientists modeled the uranium enrichment capabilities of centrifuges operating at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.

The results of those tests were not reassuring – showing that even if the centrifuges were operating at a mere 25 percent efficiency, Iran would possess enough enriched uranium to create an atomic device by the end of 2010.

But if the efficiency were 100% – and even if Iran has not (as it is believed to have) made improvements on the Pakistani-style centrifuges it operates – a sufficient quantity of enriched uranium to build a nuclear device could be ready by the end of 2008.

Infidels Memo: Disaster looming if Bush doesn’t act on Iran

February 23rd 2008

It’s been exhaustively covered over the last few years. It’s been the question that bores the left but deeply concerns the right. It’s a question concerning the sheer existence of our great ally, Israel. It’s a question for President Bush:

Do I act now or possibly hand the threat over to a Leftist in the next Presidency.

There is no doubt that Iran is pursuing the bomb. As much as the left likes to deny this fact, there is proof and the international community knows it. The question is not if Iran will soon have the bomb, but when.

Infidels, there is a disaster looming if Obama takes the reigns on dealing with Iran. He has openly stated that he wants to have direct negotiation with the Islamic regime.

Redstate envisions a potential dialogue between Obama and Mahmoud and explains how Israel is once again in the crossfire:

Obama: Are you going to launch nuclear weapons against Israel and wipe them from the face of the earth?

Ahmadinejad: Of COURSE not. We are a peaceful people.

Obama: You PROMISE?

Ahmadinejad: Of COURSE. You can trust us…always…to tell you the truth.

Obama: Cool-pass the cream and sugar please? You gonna eat that cookie?

Iran’s building them, despite their vehement denials, and they are quite sure they have every good and righteous reason to USE them against Israel when the time comes. As history has shown, the Democrats will wait and wait and wait…and they’ll react to this problem AFTER the mushroom cloud begins to dissipate over the Dead Sea…with a few “oopsies” and a couple of “my bad” press conferences for good measure.

There are, of course, those on the left who could care less what happens to Israel. There is a hidden secret of disdain for the state of Israel that stems from bending over to the poor Palestinians who’ve been oppressed and terrorized by the Jews of Irael since they declared their independence in 1948.

Yea, because Israel has never wanted peace…mmm, ok.

We are in for a scary 4 yhears if Obama decides to sit down and talk with Iran while he continues his obvious pursuit of the bomb which is coming quicker than we expected.

We are at the will of the Left if Obama takes the election in November which could spell the ultimate demise of the state of Israel because we know that Obama won’t do a damn thing, and at that point there is nothing more we can do. Only President Bush can make the decision to do what is right and not worry about what the international community or what the Democrats at home have to say about it.

At this point, it’s principle over politics.

President Bush has an enormous decision to make. One that could define his legacy if he does or does not take action against an obvious threat that the whole world can see coming.
